Here is how a lift-and-slide system earns its name: turn the handle and the panel lifts a few millimetres onto its carriage, then glides across the track with minimal effort. Closed, the same handle lowers the panel back down — compressing it against full-perimeter gaskets. That seal is the point. A conventional slider can only brush its seals across a track; a lift-and-slide panel compresses them the way a door does, which is why these systems can hold Uw ≤ 0.80 W/m²·K across panels far heavier than any hinged door.
